Local non-profit, fraternity pledge to feed children during school closing due to COVID-19

Brentwood, Tenn. —A local non-profit has teamed up with a fraternity and a Nashville restaurant and is extending a helping hand in a time of need by offering free food to 1,000 children on Thursday, April 30. They also have a goal of collecting 25,000 boxes of cereal for Metro Nashville Public Schools Food Pantries.

Volunteers will distribute 1,000 pre-boxed meals

The Achieve Initiative of Middle Tennessee Foundation (AIM-TN) is partnering with 'THE' Brentwood Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., and TEN45 Nashville to provide a meal to children and their families in the 37208-zip code of Nashville.

Volunteers will distribute 1,000 pre-boxed meals at a drive-thru pick up station at the corner of 1106 Jefferson Street Thursday, beginning at 11:30 a.m., until all the food has been handed out. There will be no human contact to ensure volunteers and recipients are safe.

Hoping to fill the gap

"The biggest worry is that a lot of these children depend on schools for breakfast and lunch," said Brentwood Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Polemarch Dewayne Collier, who is also owner of TEN45 Nashville. "Sometimes these are the only two meals they get a day and now that schools are closed because of COVID-19, we are hoping to fill that gap."

The aforementioned organizations are planning future food giveaways hoping to distribute more than 3,000 meals.

In addition to COVID-19, the devastating Nashville tornadoes drastically impacted families, many who already depend on food from Metro Nashville Public Schools (MNPS) Food Pantries. The organizations partnered with the Siemens Company to establish the "Siemens Summer Cereal Drive", which has a lofty goal of collecting 25,000 boxes of cereal to fill food pantries in MNPS. To support this worthy cause:

  • Cereal can be donated at two drop-off locations: TEN45 Nashville, 1045 Rev. Dr. Enoch Jones Blvd., Nashville, and Geico Murfreesboro, 510 N. Thompson Lane Suite B, Murfreesboro

  • To make a monetary donation for purchasing cereal go to https://aim-tn.org/siemens-cereal-drive
