Brother Clyde A. Poag was the 2nd Polemarch of the Grand Rapids Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Brother Poag was 80 years old. His wife Donna and his children David and Melissa are in our prayers. Clyde Poag entered the Bond in 1976, at East St. Louis Alumni of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
His life story of meager beginnings in East St. Louis, Illinois, his collegiate time at Tennessee State University, and his Tour of Duty in Vietnam, which would later become the reason for his avocation. As Director of Veteran Counseling Services for over 30 years, helping Veterans who struggled with PTSD and other Mental Health Disorders became his passion and his life calling.
Brother Poag is survived by his loving and devoted wife Donna, son David, daughter Melissa, sister Carolyn, and brother Carl. Please keep the family in prayer!
As the 2nd Polemarch of GRAC, after Riccardo Johnson, he placed a strong emphasis on developing young African American boys to become productive citizens. He would take them on HBCU tours at his own expense. He put his heart and soul into the Kappa Guide Right Program and The Kappa League Program. Under his leadership the Chapter grew into one of the prominent D9 Chapters in the Province. Clyde Poag lived and breathed Kappa Alpha Psi. Bro Poag was awarded the "Robert L. Gordon Award" in 2022, which is the highest award for achievement in the Northern Province.
In his passing we have lost a mentor, a brother, and a true friend. We will mourn his loss, but not as those who have no hope in the resurrection. We will continue to strive for the ideals and principles that he stood for! So, Nupe, take your rest, you fought a good fight, you ran a good race, you finished your course! We will see you again someday on "The Golden Shores of Phi Nu Pi"! Rest in Peace Good Brother! We're going to get that Grip right Nupe!
